Bolton High School was constructed in 1926 by the New Orleans architecture firm of Favrot & Livaudais. The three-story Neoclassical style building of Indiana limestone masonry exterior has received relatively few architectural alterations throughout its nearly 100 years of existence. Bolton’s 1984 National Register listing describes the high school as “the most urbane & sophisticated early twentieth century building in the parish”. Proposed work to the school includes replacing the over 500 original wood windows. LTHP encourages the Rapides Parish School Board to rehabilitate the windows (most are in excellent condition) & install insulating windows for increased energy efficiency savings using state historic tax credits.
