Evangeline Parish was created on January 1, 1911 out of the lands of western St. Landry Parish. By December of that year, The Bank of Ville Platte dissolved and established a new charter as Evangeline Bank & Trust Company. In April 1913, the bank’s board of directors authorized construction of a two-story bank building. A limit was set of $18,000 for purchase of the site and construction of the bank, with an additional cap of $4,000 for furniture and fixtures. George S. Scallan, architect and contractor from Alexandria, completed construction in May 1914. It served as a bank until 1976 when it was purchased by the city and used as Ville Platte City Hall from 1978 to 2004. The building was later used by the Ville Platte Boys and Girls Club & in recent years has remained vacant. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
