Graugnard Farms Plantation

Graugnard Farms Plantation, also known historically as Bon Secours Plantation, is a rare example of large-scale Creole architecture in St. James Parish, with a French pavilion hipped roof featuring flared eaves. When the farmland was sold for industrial development, the owner negotiated to have the house moved out of the way so it could eventually be relocated and saved. Due to shifts in the river course and levee setbacks, the house has been moved three times over the past two centuries. The property was purchased by the Graugnard Family in 1886 and served as their home for the next 130 years. A new location for the Graugnard House has been located and talks are underway with structural movers who can complete the job. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
